This year, the founder's second generation are actively taking charge of the Group’s business activities and expansion programmes, assisted by the committed and loyal Group's senior management and staff force.
I did a Management Buy Out (MBO) on January 1, 1982, from my former boss after working for his company for 14 months at the age of 23. Confidently, I changed the company name to BP Clinical Laboratory with my girlfriend, who had subsequently become my wife.
BP represents my surname Beh and my wife's surname Poh. I am glad and fortunate to have taken the courage to venture into my very first business which has yielded promising and encouraging results.
BP Clinical Laboratory partnership company became a private limited company and later seeded the Group’s expansion to more than twenty companies and investments.
For the past three years, the Group registered triple digits compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in terms of sales and profit. The Group completed its first phase of PROJECT 50. This project aims to set up 50 branches for each of its business entities as below:-
1) 50 medical laboratories
2) 50 diagnostic centres
3) 50 dispensaries and pharmacies
4) 50 hearing centres
5) 50 food, environment and industrial testing centres
6) 50 nutritionist and dietician centres
7) 50 tele-radiology centres
8) 50 clinical waste collection centres
Along with our expansion plan, our diagnostic centres have been upgraded to Ambulatory Day Care, known as BP Specialist Centres.
The Group has invested heavily on sophisticated equipment and also developed a new, fully integrated web-based internet software system. These radiology and ultrasound equipment have digitalised capabilities, which include the 128-Slice CT scan, DEXA, mammogram, colour doppler ultrasound and Computer Radiology system. These state-of-the-art equipment allows digitalised images to be conveniently recorded into our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and enables these images to be linked tele-radiologically and accessed globally. This facilitates doctors in providing, and enables patients in enjoying better quality services and quicker turnaround results, filmless reports and long, limitless records archiving.
This year the group is embarking to market our new product known as Total Radiology and Imaging Solution to all government and private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres. All prospects can have a choice to select the different packages from hardware, software, consultancy services and financing to total out-sourcing the entire department and enjoy profit sharing scheme.
In this challenging era, we aim to educate and introduce fully integrated, web-based application to all our users, including doctors within our Group, referring doctors, patients, suppliers and other stakeholders. We have to bring in Apple, Google and Android applications into our system to create a friendly and easier way of doing futuristic business. BP is there!
With our always-growing and ever-expanding Group services and facilities, many doctors and specialists have joined us, including Medical Physicians, Pathologists, ENT Specialists, Gastroenterologists and Radiologists, and other medical support professionals like Pharmacists, Nutritionists, Dietitians, Radiographers, Sonographers, and others to meet market's demand. With continuous growth and more specialised services being introduced, the Group will soon unrealizingly transform to chain of boutique hospitals with the up-grading of BP Diagnostic Centres and BP Specialist Centres.
Regional expansion has already taken place with renowned global partners namely, the Redbull family in Thailand and the Ciputra Group in Indonesia. These global partnerships can bring more opportunities to grow and expand our outreach in this region. Both countries have larger population and business opportunities as compared to Malaysia, which auger well for BP Healthcare Group aspiration to be a billion ringgit company. Our objective is to develop another 100 outlets in Indonesia and 50 in Thailand within the next 3 years.
BP Pharmacy is expanding parallel to its in-house dispensaries to meet BP diagnostic centres demand. It has openly introduced online pharmacy to the public to serve more customers, in contrast to previous practice of providing sales to limited few thousand private clinics. BP Pharmacy recently re-introduced wholesale pharmacy business. We adopted a new business concept via banking facilities as third party operators to do away with collection burden with customers. BP Pharmacy currently has several successful proprietary products and with our trusted brand and global network reach, we hope to introduce more products to better serve our customers.
The Group is also setting up a chain of retail pharmacies under Lovy Pharmacy. This chain of pharmacies will focus on a whole new business approach, which includes drive-through pharmacies, home delivery and will be offering open online purchases from Lovy Pharmacy website. The Group is intending to up-grade 10 BP Diagnostic Centres' dispensaries to Lovy Pharmacy within this first quarter of 2012 and another 50 Lovy Pharmacies by the end of 2012. Lovy Pharmacy will be operating either alongside a BP Diagnostic Centre, or as an independent retail pharmacy. The Group aspire to expand Lovy Pharmacies to be one of the few largest retail pharmacy chain in the country within the next three years!
BP Hearing Solutions Sdn Bhd is now the sole distributor in Malaysia for Beltone, a renowned hearing aid product from Denmark in which its parent company is listed with market capitalization of a few billion Euro. The Group has a panel of audiologists to provide and supervise professional audiograms and hearing fittings. To further develop this hearing service, the Group recruited and re-enforced a panel of ENT specialists to further increase and to provide a comprehensive hearing solution service, thus offering patients who require specialist service to benefit from a truly one stop centre.
BP Food Testing has been expanding very rapidly and is now offering a wide variety of tests for food materials. With that in place, we are now introducing a wide range of new tests for environment testing via our new company, BP Environment Testing Sdn Bhd. Concurrently, the Group is also planning to develop other testing service related to oil and gas this year.
To complement our existing primary care services further, BP is endeavouring into another platform by providing post-screening wellness programme known as “Healthy Inside Beauty Outside “(HIBO) This is also part of BPHG CSR to take the public by promoting HIBO roadshows nationwide.
This year the Group will be investing and introducing the following complementary services and facilities:-

5) More wellness road shows such as "Beauty Outside, Healthy Inside"

For the past year, the Group has achieved numerous awards and accreditation as follows;
- 1st medical lab in Asia to obtain Joint Commission International (JCI) by an American body,
- 1st Diagnostic Chain in Southeast Asia to be awarded by Frost & Sullivan in Customer Value Enhancement,
- 1st healthcare company to be awarded the Malaysian Brand by SIRIM and SME Corp,
- 7th Asia Pacific Super Brand,
- International Super Crown by a body in Paris,
- Golden Bull Award,
- SOBA Award,
- Brand Laureate,
- Malaysia Trade and Industry Recognition award.
The above prestigious awards helped to bring BP Healthcare Group to a greater level.
2011 is the fastest growing year in terms of sales performance, outlets opening and recruitment in the past 3 decades. The Group expects to see the same, if not better achievement in 2012. This includes setting up of 100 branches locally within the next two years via second phase of Project 50. With close business ties with our Asian partners in Indonesia and Thailand, the Group is anticipating a rapid expansion of diagnostic centre chains in these countries, too. In terms of new programmes, the Group will be introducing anti-aging services this year.
