CT SCAN

CT Lungs Screening Indications :

• History of lung cancer
• Smoking history of 10 packs/year or more (1 pack of cigarettes per
   day for 10 years, 2 packs of cigarettes per day for 5 years, etc.)
• Past history of smoking (less than 10 years ago)
• Repeated exposure to secondhand smoke
• Exposure to other cancer-causing agents (e.g. asbestos and radon)
• Age more than 40 years

CT Colonography Screening Indications :

• Older than 40 years
• Have had polyps in the past
• Family history of colon cancer
• Test positive for blood in the stool
• Elderly patients who are frail or infirm (difficult for colonoscopy).
• When colonoscopy is attempted but incomplete because the full
   length of the colon is not visualized. (10% - 20%) CT colonography
   may be done on the same day.
• If a tumor is found on colonoscopy and block passage of the scope,
   CT colonography will permit a thorough check of the entire colon.

Procedure Preparations

CT Scan PNS/Spine/Upper/Lower Limbs/CTU/Lung Screening ( Without Contrast):

1. No specific preparation required.
2. Please bring along previous Xrays, CT Scan films or ultrasound report (if any).
3. For FEMALES, inform the staff if you are pregnant or likely to be pregnant.

CT Scan Abdomen/Pelvis/Liver/Chest/Neck/Postnasal Space/Angiography (With Contrast)

1. Do not take any food at least four hours before the examination.
2. Morning Appointment - No breakfast at all please.
3. Afternoon Appointment - You may have a very light breakfast but no lunch please.
4. Please bring along previous CT Scan films or ultrasound report (if any).
5. Please help yourself to the light refreshments provided after completing your CT Scan examination.
6. Please inform your doctor if you have hypertension, diabetic, renal failure, allergies (food, medication or contact) etc.
7. Please come 1 hour early because you are require to drink oral contrast and/or give rectal contrast if you are doing CT abdomen/pelvis.
8. For FEMALES, inform the staff if you are pregnant or likely to be pregnant.

CT Colonography

1. Do not take any food at least four hours before the examination.
2. Morning Appointment - No breakfast at all please.
3. Please bring along previous CT Scan films or ultrasound report (if any).
4. Please help yourself to the light refreshments provided after completing your CT Scan examination.
5. For FEMALES, inform the staff if you are pregnant or likely to be pregnant.
6. Bowel Preparation:

TWO DAYS BEFORE YOUR CT COLONOGRAPHY
Low residue diet. Take 45ml Oral Fleet after your last meal at 7pm.

ONE DAY BEFORE YOUR CT COLONOGRAPHY
Low residue diet .Take 45ml Oral Fleet after your last meal at 7pm.
You may continue to take clear liquids until midnight.
After midnight: Do not eat or drink anything until you are advised to do so after your exam.
You may take your regular medications except diabetic medication as directed with a small sip of water.
Low residue diet 2 days prior to the examination


LOW RESIDUE DIET 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THE EXAMINATION

Food allowed Food to avoid
• White rice, 1 piece white bread
• Instant noodles
• Plain soups without eating the
  ingredients
• Pulp free or clear juices.
• Plain porridge
• Whole grain breads and pastas
• Strong cheeses, yogurt with fruit
  or seed
• Raw vegetables
• Tough meat
• Peanut butter
• Milk, oatmeal
• Dried Beans,peas
• Dried fruits, berries with skin
  or seeds
• Chocolate with Cocoa powder
• food containing whole coconut
• Juices with pulp
• popcorn

CT Angiography

1. Do not take any food at least four hours before the examination.
2. Morning appointment - No breakfast at all please.
3. Afternoon appointment - You may have a very light breakfast but no lunch please.
4. Please bring along previous Xrays, MRI films, CT Scan films or ultrasound report (if any).
5. Please help yourself to the light refreshments provided after completing your CT Scan examination.
6. Please inform yor doctor if you have hypertension, diabetic, renal failure, allergies (food, medication or contact) etc.
7. Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, green tea etc…) 24 hours before procedure.
8. For FEMALES, inform the staff if you are pregnant or likely to be pregnant

   Preparation for CT study with intravenous contrast
If you are / have:-
Any allergies to food, drug, pollen, dust, fur etc Tab prednisolone 50mg recommended to be taken 24hours and 48hours
the date before scan, to reduce risk of possible allergic reaction/asthmatic attack
Asthmatic
Diabetic Stop all medication on the day of the test and you can continue medication after completing CT and taking meal.

All other prescribed medication to be continued.
